Description

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS: Boston at Night * Zakim Bridge * Charles River Views * North Station * Reflections & Colors

TOUR DESCRIPTION: Join us for a night photo shoot in Boston. We will meet about half an hour after sunset, which varies throughout the year, details about timing and actual meeting point will be communicated prior to the event.

Boston and Cambridge have many unique and inspiring views. This tour is focused on one the most iconic structure in Boston, the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge, or short just the "Zakim Bridge". We will walk around the North Point and Paul Revere parks and cross the bridge on its curved North Bank Bridge, all of which offers not only unique views of this architectural marvel, but also reflections in the water of the Charles River, cityscapes of Boston and Cambridge, and more industrial insight into North Station and the locks to let boats pass.

Other tours will be provided and can be tailored to your requests and we will choose other appealing aspects of the city. If you have taken this tour in the past, please consider taking others to explore another part of the city.

LENGTH: 3 hours

TRANSPORTATION: This is a walking tour, you need to arrive at the meeting point. General public transport can be suggested, if needed.

SUGGESTED EQUIPMENT: This tour requires a camera capable of manual settings and a tripod. Point and shoot cameras will not work for this. A remote control or intervalometer is also useful, because exposure times will be 15 seconds to 2 minutes, which exceeds what most cameras can be adjusted to. Please wear sensible footwear and layered clothing. A backpack is very practical to carry your equipment and some of the layers.

PHOTOGRAPHIC FOCUS: This tour will focus on the technical aspects of night photography and composition to ensure that you capture unique and intriguing views of the city, which will be very different from what you are used to take during daytimes.

Detailed instructions about how to create night photos will be given. In contrast to other workshops or tours, our instructor does not take photos, but will be assisting the group with technical settings, composition suggestions, tips and tricks for the entire evening. In addition, a 2-page "cheat sheet" for most common camera settings and a guide to prepare your camera for this tour will be distributed prior to the event. This tour is suitable for beginners, intermediate and advanced night photographers, the instructor will ensure that all levels are accommodated. It is important that you know how to change exposure time, aperture, ISO and white balance manually before the tour, so that we don't have to spend time on these during the tour, and instead can dive right into creating intriguing images of this historic city.

STRENUOUSNESS: 3 hours of slow walking and stopping. Much time is spent waiting for the long exposures to finish.

MAX # OF PARTICIPANTS: 8

CANCELLATION: Tour can be cancelled by the attendee for a full refund up to 10 days prior to the event. This is an outdoor walking tour, which is dependent on weather. We will not be able to take photos in rain or snow, but may provide a rain date close to the scheduled event. In case of tour cancellation or rescheduling, a refund can be issued.
